Michael Gerson: A Clinton Campaign Drained of Idealism
On August 19th 2015, Michael Gerson established a mocking diction through the use of humor and repetition to ridicule Hillary Clinton in his article titled: A Clinton Campaign Drained of Idealism. The second paragraph of Gerson's article refers to Clinton's team with the term "minions," (Gerson) to make his audience chuckle while he points Clinton out to be an super villain with mindless followers. Gerson chose this humerous term instead of a more professional one such as support group or campaign managers to emphasize his intense disapproval with what he believes to be Clinton's "evil" commands. In the first paragraph of Gerson's attack on Clinton he idolizes repetition such as a "thousand focus groups," "a thousand memos," "a thousand points repeated," (Gerson) and goes on to say she has not yet accomplished anything. Gerson chooses to use the word 'thousand' in a repetitive stylistic diction to spotlight his boredom and to mock Clinton's progression plan. Gerson's expression of displeasure and frustration through elements such as humor and repetition were successful in creating a tone of annoyance in reference to the Hillary Clinton Campaign.
